Sound Therapy Part I & II - 16 CE Hours
Part I & II - March 2016, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
$225 for 16 CE Hours  
($125 for 8 CE Hours - Part I only)

Sound Therapy includes learning how to utilize sound as a healing tool for wellness. We will explore a variety of therapeutic sound techniques and applications to use alone and also to incorporate with other bodywork modalities. This course will provide a foundation in sound healing theory and practice to assist in achieving greater health. We will address the health benefits of utilizing sound therapies. An overview of sound therapy techniques will include rhythmic fundamentals, entrainment techniques, vocal toning meditation, therapeutic improvisation, deep listening skills, and an introduction to sound healing instruments.
 
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course, participants will have demonstrated the following understandings, skills, and dispositions. The course participant (will):

*
Understand basic sound healing theory

*Describe the physical/physiological affects of sound vibrations on the body 

*Describe the health benefits of sound therapies, different sound therapy techniques, and provide psycho-       education to clients

*Demonstrate and apply skills based in various sound healing applications to improve health and balance in     the body/mind including:
  1. Meeting the client where they are at using breath & sound
  2. Applying sound textures
  3. Entrainment techniques
  4. Rhythmic fundamentals
  5. Rhythm exercises for the body
  6. Toning techniques
  7. Therapeutic vocal techniques
  8. Therapeutic music improvisation
  9. Increased presence and deep listening skills

*Identify and apply skills using different sound healing instruments during a therapeutic bodywork session       (Drums, rattles, singing bowls, chimes, shruti box, flute, voice, etc.)

​*Demonstrate the ability to use deep listening skills and create a safe environment for the client


*Learn to integrate and apply supportive sound healing techniques with other massage/bodywork modalities     including: therapeutic relaxation music specified for clients particular needs


*Gain an introduction to tuning forks


*These learning outcomes will be achieved through lecture, PowerPoint, hands on practice, discussion, handouts, video, and further resources for sound therapies
 

​Christy Clavio provides integrative holistic health care focusing on mind-body therapies to educate and empower people in their recovery. She is licensed and Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and has been practicing healing arts professionally since 1997. Christy has facilitated therapeutic music improvisation, vocal exploration, toning, and sounding healing groups for over 15 years with diverse populations. She is a graduate of Music for People’s Musician and Leadership program, a 4-year training based in music therapy, and a facilitator for Toning for Peace. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist. Christy has worked as a clinician in public mental health since 2012 helping adults, children, and families with mental health, addiction, and trauma recovery. Christy is a teaching artist and professional musician presenting innovative multi-cultural music programs that celebrate our diversity through an exploration of culture, music, healing, and self-expression.
