My passion for working with people through the healing arts was born out of my love for movement and the expression of the human form. As a dancer of many years, I found great satisfaction in the emotional depth, the transformational and healing capacity of working with the body. Certain stepping stones from my early foundation as a dancer exposed me to many perspectives on healing. Amongst these were; Feldenkreis Work, Alexander Technique, Tragger Monastics, Ideokinesis and Body Mind Centering, all of which I continue to draw from and integrate today.
In 1991, I received my Bachelors of Fine arts in movement and choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University. I spent the better part of my 20’s performing and educating through movement with adults, children and special needs populations.
In 1998, I moved to Asheville and became a Licensed Massage Therapist and Certified Yoga Teacher; thus beginning my private practice.
After the birth of my first son, I became passionate about supporting empowered birth and delved into a Midwifery Immersion with Whapio Bartlett at The Matrona School.
In 2008, I studied western Herbalism at the Chestnut School of Herbal Studies, while pregnant with my second son. Soon after his birth, I began practicing as a Doula.
My love and reverence for this beautiful planet and living with awareness of her rhythms and influences is central in my teaching. I am also a firm believer of weaving together strong and flexible networks of support in our local communities. I feel that our inner work, our work in our communities and our caring for the earth is powerful reflections of each other. Our capacity to care comes from our direct connection to something; beginning with our self and spirit.
Through my experiences as a Doula, offering pre and post- partum care and family support, I am continually inspired to create safe and authentic containers for people to explore and connect.
Central to this exploration is mindfulness. Mindfulness of breath, of body and of the mental and emotional constructs that when uncovered; often hold the key to our continued growth and fulfillment.
In my private practice, I integrate manual therapy, herbalism, yoga, breath work and movement; collaborating with people to develop tools that support optimal health and balance in their lives. I am a mother of two biological sons and a step daughter. They are my greatest teachers in love and life. Christie Abling Massage Therapist Yoga Therapy Instructor Pregnancy Yoga Mama Baby Yoga
